Aurora borealis and fall musings

September 14, 2010

Autumn came to the north woods almost overnight.  The signs were there; but on Tuesday, August 31st everyone was enduring temperatures in the 80's. Warm, humid nights of sleeping and singing days of heat had us yearning for cooling breezes.  Then once again Mother Nature changed it all; fierce winds returned and combined with rain dropped the temperatures into the 30's.  Shorts were quickly replaced by fleece and layers; guests were caught off guard for this abrupt change.  The sun came out briefly over the Labor Day weekend to allow everyone to enjoy the last days of summer.

The Lodge fireplace consumes much wood at this time of year with fires set in the morning twilight that continue through the day into the night.  As you step outside in the crisp morning air your nose unmistakably picks up the smoky smell; stepping into the lodge the warmth draws everyone over to warm both body and soul.

This morning (Tuesday, September 14th) guests in Cabin #5 shared the news of the viewing of the aurora borealis .... in colors.  These gentlemen were up late and at 2 am captured the show on film.  They promise to share and once they do, we'll add the link for all to see.
