Mud puddles and foggy mornings

(1) commentMud puddles, foggy morning and glistening spider webs filled with dew
It was a mud puddle Saturday morning that was the early morning walk to the lodge. The air was cool enough for a second layer and then as the day progressed we were right back into summer sun with steamy temperatures. This time of August is all about surprises; you never know quite what to expect. There could be a fire burning in the lodge fireplace, or the windows all thrown open to bring in whatever breeze we can find. All the experiences in the span of less than a half day or even an hour.
Sunday morning brought thick fog.. humidity so high that if you stood quietly by the side of the woods you would think it was raining: you could hear the dew leave the tree branches and drop to the forest floor. The lake was enveloped in fog as the sun gently and yet firmly rose in the sky. Early morning guests were heading to the marina for a ride on the hydrobikes........it would make a perfect photo...bicycling off into the fog. As I neared the lodge my eyes were stopped by the sight of a jewel-like, delicate bag drooping from the branches of the norway pine another photo possibility. Into the lodge .... for the camera ... but a guest needing a question answered delayed my return outdoors. I did get the photo of the spider web; but missed the guests on the bikes ....the busyness of morning began.

Yes, it’s finally happened....Burntside guests’ Gail Solstad and Mike McClure , saw a baby moose as they were driving into Ely from Burntside on Monday about 2 in the afternoon. The moose was simply standing along the side of the road....Gail and Mike were not initially certain what they were seeing; but slowed down and had a stare down with the dark brown, burgundy colored baby moose...0 commentsMay 24, 2010 | Almost
